My biggest fear is developing another kidney stone.

To prevent this, I am thinking of taking the following on a daily basis:

DoubleWood Astragalus (500mg)

Nature's Blend Elemental Magnesium Amino Acid Chelate (300 mg)

I would also drink Magnesium Citrate (Natural Vitality brand) whenever I feel like it, not w any type of regularity. I would prefer to drink Whole Foods Magnesium Fizz (Ionic Magnesium (Blend Of Citric Acid and Magnesium Carbonate), Natural Flavor, Organic Stevia Extract (Stevia Rebaudiana Leaf).)

Does this protocol sound reasonable?

Do I need to cycle any of these or should I just plan on taking the Astragalus and Elemental magnesium forever?

Thank you!

1) I think everyone should supplement with multiform magnesium daily forever, because it's been taken out of our food and water supplies. I'm more into combining magnesium chloride, malate, glycinate, pidolate, acetyl-taurate & glycerophosphate.

2) Astragalus needs to be run at min 2-3g per day to see a notable impact on kidney function & regeneration IMO. I'd even take 10g per day if dealing with active kidney stones or other kidney ailments, which is ridiculous in capsule form. So yeah I'd probably take 2-3 doublewood astragalus caps twice per day.

I remember you from previous questions and factored what I already know about you in my response:

1) help you with what? your test and thyroid levels are normal for a guy your age who isn't eating properly, exercising properly and living a high T lifestyle.

2) Read this: https://bowtiedbiohacker.com/p/the-ultimate-guide-to-testosterone

There's no pill that's going to give you high T or abs. You have to put the effort in or at least get a doctor's prescription for TRT

Hey UM, thanks for reading me and for your replies. Here's my 2 questions:

1 - I have been struggling with chronic tendinopathy in multiple areas of my body, including my ankles, feet, knees, elbows, and wrists (not carpal tunnel, but something similar) for almost four years. I am certain it is not due to an autoimmune disorder but likely due to past malnutrition. This has left my tendons weak and easily damaged. About six months ago, I started injecting BPC-157 at 250mcg/day, which significantly improved my bilateral epicondylitis. I am currently injecting my wrists and knees with 500mcg/day in a single dose and 2,5mg TB-500 e3d. I see you posted about this protocol for an injured rotator cuff: BPC-157 (500mcg/day + 1mg oral), TB-500 (2mg/3 days), GHK-Cu (2mg/day), HGH (3iu/day). But what kind of protocol would you follow if you were in my place? After how many months would you repeat the protocol? What would you use if you didn't have access to HGH?

2 - I've been suffering from allergy and IBS for a long time. Seems like the factor linking them is high serotonin and high histamine. I started taking cyproheptadine intermittently like most on the ray peat forum do. I've been seeing good results. The only thing that annoys me is this almost constant allergic conjunctivitis that causes my eyes to be too sensitive to light. I also have histamine intolerance reactions if I eat aged food. I see a lot of people online talking about SAM-e. What would you recommend to reduce my overall allergies and alleviate my chronic eye inflammation and light sensitivity? I'm also considering BPC-157 eyedrops.

Best stack for locking in for 3 months (12h+ work days, 6x days per week)? And do you have any tips for ensuring the highest probability of sustaining high output / not "burning out"?

Thanks!

Expand full comment
author

1) Non-negotiables to sustain high output & not burn out:

- Eat a balanced diet: track everything with cronometer and don't skimp any vitamins or minerals. can take a step further and do keto diet as it typicall increases mental performance and energy

- Go outside 20 minutes first thing am, around noon, and around sunset. if you skip this step you deserve burnout

- Fix sleep. No all nighters. 6 hours daily minimum. Do what you have to do to get enough sleep even if it means you get less work done that day. Over the course of 3 months you'll do more.

- Keep up your cardio. You can't tell me you can't find 30 minutes a day to get HR in the 140s five times. aweek. You need this for your brain

Stack?

Literally depends on your genetics and stuff.

Me personally? Adamax nasal spray, sabroxy, 4'DMA, cognizin, caffeine, some alpha gpc here and there, and rhodiola rosea.

Suppose your goal is to increase total and free T from middle of reference range to high end. If you had a family and/or personal history of hormone sensitive cancers (eg breast, prostate, testicular), would you avoid supplementation with DHEA and/or pregnenolone? Would you still be open to other exogenous supplementation methods such as tongkat ali and cistanche? How would you think about risk/reward?

Expand full comment
author

DHEA & Pregnenolone aren't going to move your T up significantly if at all. The hormone sensitive cancers are caused by hormonal IMBALANCES (primarily high e2 relative to androgens (Test & DHT), don't believe the lies about DHT I've already debunked this)

You need to read this guide, it will clear up everything:

Hi UM - been following your twitter for a while and have learned a lot of things. Currently on your dopamine detox protocol and I'm loving it. I wanted to ask you how I can kick the habit of smoking nicotine. To me I do not feel the effects of nicotine anymore, it is just the oral fixation, the habit of smoking something. I want to drop this habit but I have tried many things and the most I can go is 2 weeks before I fall into the habit again. Are there any tips or supplements you can recommend to help?

"Common side effects include high blood pressure, headaches, and urinary tract infections.[5] Other significant side effects include urinary retention, irregular heart rate, and angioedema.[5][7] It works by activating the β3 adrenergic receptor in the bladder, resulting in its relaxation"

I'm good on that. Also good on clen.

Doesn't make a huge difference either way

Id rather just be patient and have it take an extra few days or weeks to hit desired bodyfat

About 7 months ago I went on a keto diet solely to improve cognitive performance. I used to feel lethargic often and most days I'd have what probably say is brain fog now but at the time I put it down to carbs which I split over about 4 meals so nothing crazy. Ate mostly heathy carbs, oats, sweet P, rice, some fruits.

My diet was already 90% strict but since going keto it's very strict and my eczema has mostly cleared up and I don't get lethargic or have brain fog like I used to.

I want to come off the diet but I don't want to go back to feeling the way I did. But since going on keto I have cut out dairy and other foods so I'm wondering if I felt the way I did and why my eczema was bad was because of food intolerances.

Guess my question is do you think I felt they way I did because of certain food regardless of how healthy they'd be considered? or do you think it's just keto diet turning things up a notch or two.

Think I'm kinda answering this in my own head as I'm typing but I'd still love your opinion on it as I could be wrong.

I see people like Vigorous steve say they do keto because of the cognitive boost but plenty of people do well enough without it so I don't think it's normal the way I was feeling.

I think the best way to go is cyclical keto + cut out all foods you have intolerance to

Perhaps keto 5 days carbs 2 days a week? There's no doubt a mental benefit, because brain is less inflamed and runs better on ketones

Keto is also even more effective for this ourpose during winter when sunlight is low and carb metabolism isn't that good

If you do decide to eat carbs full time, I'd supplement with a good b complex

Probably too much blue light and not enough red light + nutritional deficiencies

You need to be getting outside every morning, afternoon & evening plus cutting out blue light in the evening. That means if you aren't using circadian bulbs in your home, you need to wear blue block glasses and or use more candles. You should also have twilight app on your android or night shift enabled on iphone + flux on your computer. TV i would avoid unless you have a google chromecast you can install twilight on. Other than that, track your diet on Cronometer and make sure you're getting ALL of your micro nutrients. Could be anything from b6-9-12, to omega 3 deficiency, to zinc, lutein, etc.

Question 2: will eating in a caloric deficit and therefore lower carb cause low free T? I thought I read somewhere on here that low carb can cause lower T, but not sure if that’s a problem or worry when trying to cut BF% or if it’s just unavoidable.

Expand full comment
author

Yeah it eventually will cause elevated SHBG unless you're on exogenous testosterone. It's part of the game when you're natty. If you don't go low carb, you have to go low fat which will drop your total and free T to a varrying degree, find out what's best for you.

For my second question please. Curious on your thoughts on Bryan Johnson's diet, specifically his protein intake. He does 95 grams/day protein on a high carb vegan diet at a bodyweight of 163. Dude obviously had a nice looking physique.

Extremely curious on your thoughts because his diet seems to go against everything this side of the internet preaches i.e. high protein, meat heavy diet.

Expand full comment

Here are the facts I'm aware of:

1) He didn't build his muscle on that diet.

2) He's been known to take exogenous testosgerone and hgh

3) He's still low muscle mass for being 163 at 5'11

4) He looks his age

I've previously mentioned issues related to high estrogen levels at low body fat and the problems it causes.

I'm considering using DHT enanthate solo for a while and then adding testosterone. I'm curious if this approach will really work. What major problems could arise from using DHT enanthate alone? Can you elaborate on this? It seems that studies suggest it can be used for a while.

Expand full comment
author

DHT enanthate solo can be downright dangerous

DHT suppresses glucocorticoids and mineralcorticoids through carious pathways, seemingly through receptor antagonism and reduced production.

Without any testosterone and estradiol, aldosterone deficiency is not only very possible, but I suspect anyone will run into it eventually. That can kill you. DHT solo has resulted in at least one nearly fatal adrenal crisis.

I'd just get healthy and low bodyfat naturally first bro. it's not worth it.
